ATLANTA - Emory University Hospital has dropped its challenge to a plan by Gwinnett Medical Center to perform heart surgeries.

Emory dropped it suit Friday... just 15 days after Piedmont Hospital pulled out of its attempt to block Gwinnett Medical from pursuing plans for the procedures.

Emory's decision followed talks between several Gwinnett County leaders and Emory officials... and an agreement that the people of Gwinnett and surrounding areas would be better served by cooperation between the two hospitals.

GMC President & CEO Phil Wolfe had said all along he felt like Gwinnett Medical would prevail in the long run.
