No. 7 Dragons burn Union County

JEFFERSON - Jefferson scored 50 unanswered points after falling behind 7-0 en route to a 63-21 thumping of Union County Friday night in a Region 8-AA battle at Memorial Stadium.

The Class AA seventh-ranked Dragons got another huge game from senior quarterback Darius Minor, who rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 113 yards and one touchdown to spark the offense.

Jefferson (5-0, 4-0 in region) finished with 522 total yards of offense, 387 on the ground. Lucas Redd rushed for two touchdowns and Drequan Sewell, Caleb Meek, and Cain Finch each had one TD rushing. SkyPorter caught one touchdown pass for the Dragons.

Union County senior quarterback Kolt Owenby had a solid game with 207 yards passing and two touchdowns. Owenby led the Panthers (2-3, 1-3) to a 7-0 lead on the opening drive of the game but they could not find the end zone again until the second half after Jefferson had built a 50-7 lead.

The Panthers have now lost three straight region games but will play host to Fannin County next week. Jefferson travels to Riverside Military Academy next week.
