Lee Rogers with Southeastern Insurance in Gainesville said so far, his office has only received a few calls about adding flood insurance to homeowners' policies, but he said that could change.
"As folks realize that the folks in other parts of the state that are more affected than we are are not having their loses covered because they're not covered under a normal homeowners policy, then I expect we'll have a lot more calls," said Rogers.
Rogers said since Gainesville and Hall County are in what is known as a preferred zone, flood insurance rates are as low as $140 per year. He said that's a good investment.
"It always just pays to sit down with your insurance agent and just do a review, and flood needs to be one of the things that is discussed," he said.
State officials have estimated the damage from the floods at around $250 million.
