The Elephants wasted little time in jumping on rival North Hall scooping up a Trojan fumble on the second play en route to a 55-12 win City Park Stadium. Gainesville outscored North Hall 27-0 in the second half to break the game open.
No. 9 Flowery Branch started slow but used a big second quarter en route to a 48-12 win over Chestatee at War Eagle Stadium.
The defenses ruled at Maginnins Field with North Oconee getting an interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter to spark the Titans to a key 17-0 Region 8-AA win over Riverside Military Academy.

No. 8 Creekview rallied from an early deficit to beat West Forsyth 28-14; Gilmer knocked off East Hall 26-12 at East Hall Stadium; Johnson beat Pickens 10-0 on the road; and White County whipped West Hall 36-7 in Oakwood.
In other Region 8-AA action:
No. 7 Jefferson ran just eight plays in the second half but scored on four of them in a 55-14 rout of Oglethorpe County. Banks County beat Rabun County 18-14 in a game that saw five lead changes. East Jackson remained unbeaten with a 56-27 thumping of Union County.
Habersham Central shocked dfending Region 8-AAAA champion Loganville 31-27 in Mt. Airy.
Class AAAAA No. 3 North Gwinnett fell behind early to Norcross but rallied for a 26-16 win.
