Dragon boats returning to Lanier

GAINESVILLE - The colorful Dragon boats are coming again this weekend to the Lake Lanier Olympic Center.

It's the 14th Annual Atlanta Dragon Boat Festival, and it will be held on Saturday. As a result, the boat launch ramp at Clarks Bridge Park will be closed to the public on Saturday.

Race categories this year include Open, Female, Mixed, BCS (Breast Cancer Survivors), Collegiate, High School, International, Recreational and Law Firms.

In past years, teams have participated from corporate Atlanta and from local organizations, churches and colleges. A few teams which have participated include: AJC International, AT&T, Troutman Sanders LLP, Holder Construction, The Home Depot, Merrill Lynch, United Commercial Bank, Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club, National Association of Chinese Americans, Georgia Tech, Georgia State University, Kennesaw State University, Emory University, University of Georgia, Agnes Scott, Reinhardt College and Perimeter College. A host of Breast Cancer Survivor (BCS) teams from throughout the United States will participate, as well.

The annual event attracts thousands of participants and spectators to the venue.
