LAWRENCEVILLE - A 4-year veteran of the Gwinnett Police Department has been charged with DUI after a weekend traffic accident.

Authorities said Monday that James Stoudenmire, 27, was driving a 2006 Ford Mustang involved in a traffic accident Saturday night on Pleasant Hill Road at I-85. Stoudenmire's vehicle apparently struck a 1999 Mazda 626 stopped at a traffic light.

Investigators said they determined the off-duty officer was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He was arrested at the scene without incident. Stoudenmire has bonded out of jail on $1557.00 bail.

A passenger from the Mazda was treated and released at the scene when he complained of a leg injury.

Stoudenmire is on administrative leave from the department pending an internal investigation of the incident.
