Furloughs mean long weekend for workers

UNDATED - The Labor Day holdiay weekend will be extra long for some county workers in the area... but not necessarily because they want it that way.

They would normally be off Monday because of Labor Day. But Tuesday will be a day off, as well. It's another of those mandated monthly unpaid furlough days for Hall and Habersham county employees and employees of the Hall County Library System.

In addition, Gainesville State College will be taking the first of its state-mandated furlough days on Tuesday.

Jackson County recently implemented a furlough plan but it won't begin until October.
