ATHENS - Authorities in Athens are cracking down on drug dealing in and around bars in the downtown area of the college town.

Athens-Clarke police say they made the first arrests under the new effort around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police say 55-year-old Calvin McCaslin allegedly sold cocaine to an undercover officer inside a bar and was arrested after he left the bar. He was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

Police say they watched 62-year-old James Samuel Johnson sell cocaine near another bar. He was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

Police say both men were regulars at downtown bars and were well-known to police.
