ATLANTA - The leaders of Georgia's social services department are holding an emergency meeting to discuss budget cuts.

The board of the Department of Human Services is scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss how to cut millions from its budget after Gov. Sonny Perdue ordered all agencies in July to slash 5 percent from their spending plans.

The governor also called on Georgia's 128,000 teachers to take three unpaid furlough days and ordered 3 percent funding cuts for Medicaid and public schools to help fill a $900 million shortfall amid plummeting tax collections.
