Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said the structure was engulfed in flames when the first units arrived at the Chestatee Road site and that crews went into a defense mode, trying to protect a nearby house and were successful in keeping the flames from spreading.
Capt. Jerry Smith of the Hall County Fire Department said the building was valued at around $250,000; the contents, which included two boats and a golf cart and furnishings for the apartment, were valued at about $200,000.
Cause of the fire remained unknown at last check. There was no one at home at the time of the fire, about 5:15, which was called in by an alarm company.
