Officials with Sawnee EMC said that's the case when it comes to a power bill scam targeting North Georgia residents.
Company officials said some of their customers have received a phone call saying that the government is paying up to $350 toward the power bills of the low income and elderly. They said the caller goes on to say that all a customer has to do is recite their social security number and Sawnee EMC account number.
Sawnee EMC officials warn customers not give out that information because the message is not coming from them. They said anyone with questions should contact their 24-hour Call Center at (770) 887-2363.
