ATLANTA - Gov. Sonny Perdue is heading to Columbus and Albany to discuss the latest developments in Georgia's ongoing fight with Alabama and Florida over federal water rights.

The governor will meet with officials on Wednesday in Columbus and on Thursday in Albany... areas that like Atlanta and other parts of north Georgia are in the Appalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint (ACF) River Basin.

The meetings come as Georgia's legal battle with its neighbors escalates.
A federal judge issued a ruling last month concluding that Georgia has little legal rights to Lake Lanier.

The judge set a three-year deadline for Congress to ratify a new agreement. Perdue has since vowed to appeal the ruling, urged federal legislators to address the issue and says he's willing to jump-start negotiations between the three states.
