OAKWOOD - Burglary suspects who eluded capture despite an early morning manhunt near McEver Road and Dawsonville Highway remained at large at midday Thursday.

Oakwood police Sgt. Danny Crawford says officers responded to a burglar alarm at Underwater Adventures on McEver Road early Thursday and spotted the suspects in a small, black car "as it was leaving the area."

Sgt. Crawford says the officers "attempted to stop it (and) check the driver (but the car sped away). They chased it up to Gainesville where the guy lost control of the vehicle and wrecked over in the parking lot of family and children services."

The occupants of the car jumped out and ran. Tracking dogs were called in and search the area between where the car wrecked and the McEver Corner shopping center. The suspects got away, but Crawford says information about the car could help lead to an arrest.
