GAINESVILLE - Things will be a bit more complicated than usual this weekend for motorists at the Exit 16 construction site in Oakwood.

Workers will be removing asphalt on one lane of Mundy Mill Road under the I-985 overpass and replacing it with a new layer. That will directly impact traffic on Mundy Mill and the southbound exit ramp.

A detailed description of what to expect, according to the state Department of Transportation:

WHEN: Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, June 5, continuously until 7 p.m. Saturday, June 6

WHERE: I-985 southbound exit ramp to Exit 16, SR 53/Mundy Mill Road and SR 53/Mundy Mill Road under the interstate. Crews will be working in the eastbound lanes of SR 53.

WHAT: The Georgia Department of Transportation has scheduled weekend work from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting. Crews will be removing old asphalt and putting down new asphalt on SR 53/Mundy Mill Road under the interstate.

Eastbound traffic on SR 53 will be reduced to one lane.

Traffic coming off the interstate on the southbound exit ramp will be forced to turn right as crews will be working in the left turn area. Traffic can continue on SR 53/Mundy Mill Road about 500 feet and make a U-turn to travel on Mundy Mill Road westbound.

Delays are expected in the work zone.

If weather does not allow the work to occur this weekend, it will be rescheduled for the next weekend, June 12 and 13.
