Preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of a beige, 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling southbound on 85. Gwinnett police say the driver swerved and lost control of her vehicle because she thought a white passenger car was going to collide with her vehicle.
As a result, the SUV struck a black, 1994 BMW 318IS that was traveling southbound in an adjacent lane. The Trailblazer overturned and two passengers were ejected from it. One died at the scene; the other died later at a hospital.
Police say there were eight people in the Trailblazer, including the driver. The driver of the BMW was the lone occupant and was not injured.
Killed were Graciela Villamizar,69, of Kennesaw and Javier Mejia, 15, also of Kennesaw. Police said alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in this collision.
