GAINESVILLE - Gainesville school officials say there are no indications in maintenance records of any problems with the bus where investigators now say the fire that destroyed eight city school buses Friday started.

City fire chief Jon Canada said early Wednesday that based on tape from a security camera, investigators have determined that the fire was apparently not the work of arsonists and that they are looking at the possibility that the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in the bus where the fire started. Gainesville Schools Superintendent Merrianne Dyer said later in the morning the school system is working closely with investigators probing the blaze... and has supplied them with all maintenance records as part of this investigation.

"All records indicate that we have done our due diligence in maintaining our buses. We have full confidence in the investigating officials. Our maintenance department is examining and checking all of our buses to ensure that they are in safe operating order before summer school begins."
