GAINESVILLE - The rains we've had so far this month are unlike anything we've seen in May in five years.

Through Sunday, the Gainesville airport had recorded 3.70 inches of rain... the most for the month of May since 4.76 inches fell in 2004.

That has helped push the level of drought-stricken Lake Lanier up by almost two feet (1.58 feet) the past 17 days. The level April 30 was 1063.87; early Monday, it was 1065.45. Full pool is 1071.
