Less than a week after burglars stole $11,000 from Maranatha Christian Academy, the money has been paid back two-fold, and maybe more... thanks to donations.
"We have seen those funds return and probably return twice, and maybe working on the third time," according to Pastor Rod Bell, Jr., president of the Oakwood school.
While a specific amount has not been announced, Bell says of the donations "they've gone from anything from $20 to $50, and one person, a businessman, gave us a check for $10,0000."
There have been no new leads on the thief or thieves. The school had money struggles before the break-in - with a number of parents withdrawing their children because they could not longer afford the tuition in light of the recess - but Bell says the donations have helped, and have been a God-send.
"It's been pretty remarkable at the response that people have given."
The money that was stolen had been set aside for teacher salaries.
Bell said he has been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community.
