The first round of grants under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will go for the education of students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged students.
State officials say Georgia's share will total more than $600 million of those funds, and about half the amount will be allocated on Tuesday. The rest is expected in the fall.
In addition to grants in those categories, Georgia officials say they expect to receive more than $900 million in stimulus funds for the schools, most of which Gov. Sonny Perdue can use for education from kindergarten through 12th grade.
