Three Ga. banks report 1Q losses

UNDATED -The news is not good today when it comes to the latest earnings reports from three of Georgia's biggest banks.

Atlanta-based SunTrust reports first-quarter losses totaling $815 million.

Blairsville-based United Community Bank says its losses totaled $104 million.

And, Synovus, which is headquartered in Columbus, is reporting first-quarter losses of $137 million.

Each of them had recorded first quarter earnings last year: SunTrust $291 million; United, $16 million; and, Synovus, $83 million.
