Baseball: Jefferson clinches 8-AA South title with win over Oglethorpe County

JEFFERSON -- Jefferson clinched the Region 8-AA South subregion title with a 14-4, five inning win over Oglethorpe County Thursday night.

The Class AA sixth-ranked Dragons (14-2, 9-1 in subregion) will play host to Banks County Friday on Senior Night.

Jake Fields led the Jefferson offense with four hits and two RBI. Jamie Sexton, Jason Demos, Kyle Hardy, and Caleb Meek each had two hits for the Dragons. Demos and Fields also belted home runs for Jefferson as they roughed up Oglethorpe starter Craig Neal for 12 hits and 11 runs in 2 1/3 innings.

Sexton got the win for Jefferson allowing two runs on three hits in 4 1/3 innings.

For Oglethorpe, Adam Long had two hits, including a home run, to lead the offense. Tony Smith also hit a home run for the Patriots.
