Gainesville teen 1st runner-up in Youth of the Year competition

GAINESVILLE - Teryan Rucker, an eleven-year member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County, traveled to Atlanta recently weekend to compete for the title of Georgia Youth of the Year. During the competition, he attended a workshop sponsored by Darden Restaurants (parent company of Red Lobster, Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse) on pursing a postsecondary education. <br /> <br /> While not selected as the state winner, Rucker is set to receive a $2,000 college scholarship from Darden Restaurants once he completes a few post-workshop tasks. Rucker was selected as first-runner up among the 30-plus Youths of the Year competing across Georgia.<br /> <br /> Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive.
