DAHLONEGA - An arrest has been made in connection with an arson fire at the Dahlonega Rite Aid last month.

Darren Martin with the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office said 42-year-old Hubert Jeffrey Smith of Dahlonega was arrested on drug charges a few days later in Dawson County where he is currently being held.

"Mr. Smith is being detained in Dawson County for the drug charges and will be charged with first degree arson here in Lumpkin County," he said.

Martin said an acquaintance of Smith's, who drove him to the Rite Aid on the day of the fire, confirmed that Smith was involved.

He said Smith was seen on surveillance video pouring some sort of accelerant on the floor of the building on the day of the fire.

The Rite Aid at 566 E. Main Street is set to reopen Monday after operating from a mobile pharmacy on site.
