State workers including some who already have been forced to take furlough days off without pay will pay more for their health insurance, under the proposal.
The budget was approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday.
It'll face a vote by the full Senate Wednesday. And with just one more day left in the legislative session after that, Senate budget writers will have to iron out their differences with the House spending blueprint.
The Senate plan puts more money into Medicaid for skyrocketing growth in the health program for the poor. The 2010 budget covers the fiscal year that begins July 1.
