ATLANTA - The Sprint Canoe/Kayak program at the Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club in Gainesville was recognized by Gov. Sonny Perdue recently at the state Capitol. The resolution also recognized members of LCKC who represented Georgia on the 2008 U.S.A. National Canoe/Kayak Sprint Team and who will be competing April 24-26 in Chula Vista at the U.S.A. Canoe/Kayak National Team Trials.

Members of the Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club traveled to Atlanta to have their picture taken with Governor Sonny Perdue and state Rep. James Mills, who sponsored the House Resolution recognizing the Olympic Legacy Canoe/ Kayak Program on Lake Lanier at the Clarks Bridge Olympic Venue in Gainesville.

Coach Claudiu Ciur along with 17 of his athletes from the Canoe/Kayak Sprint Program visited the Capitol. Morgan House, Sam d' Entremont, Morgan Smith, Sheaffer Sorrells, John Blackburn, Hezakiah Blackburn, James Watson, Anna Crawford, Macy Dwyer, Luke Potts, Ethan Jackson, Hannah Rose Jackson, Heather Lana, Alejandro Schwedhelm, Will Roszel, Rebecca Westmoreland and Holly Shilling also heard a reading of the House Resolution. They represent a program that won the U.S. A. Canoe/Kayak National Club Championships last August in Oklahoma City.

The Canoe/Kayak program at LCKC has developed athletes who have competed at the International level in both Junior and Senior events in both Canoe & Kayak disciplines. There were more athletes from LCKC on the U.S. Senior and Junior National Teams in 2008 than from any other club in the country.
