Ben and Kristi Pahr of Maysville starting talking about what has become Hope Harvest Farm last fall. She says the planting will take place literally in their front yard which has already been plowed and awaits the first planting.
"It's about, almost about half-an-acre," Kristi Pahr said, "and we have about 12,000-15,000 square feet of planting space."
Kristi Pahr, appearing on Sunday's Northeast Georgia This Week on WDUN NEWS TALK 550, said their goal is to grow as much as they can from mid-winter to early fall... and giving it all to food pantries in Banks, Jackson and Hall counties - eventually expanding into other counties. They would also like to eventually have satellite farms in other counties.
She says they expect to harvest about 10,000 pounds of vegetables "by the end of the season." Corn and tomatoes, Pahr said, are expected to be the dominant crops.
Pahr said they are looking for volunteers to help with the effort and are in need of monetary, in-kind, and tangible donations. There is a list of what is needed - included legal advice and tax and accounting help - posted on their Web site.
