Pioneer NE Ga. broadcaster dies in Athens

ATHENS - Mary L. Betts, one of the women who helped to break the gender barrier in broadcasting in northeast Georgia, died Wednesday at age 82.

Betts served as station manager of WGAU/WNGC radio stations in Athens in the 1980s and early 1990s.

She also was the first woman elected to chair the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, serving in 1984, and was the first recipient of the chamberâ
