Air Force reducing orders for Marietta-built fighter?

WASHINGTON - Published reports say the Air Force is likely to cut back on plans to buy more F-22 fighter jets... meaning the production line at the Lockheed-Martin plant in Marietta where the plane is assembled could be a step closer to shutting down.

The Air Force has a contract to buy nearly 200 of the F-22s but the Washington Post quotes Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz as telling a defense writers group that it will likely buy fewer. However, he would not give a figure.

The report says Lockheed-Martin has 25,000 people in 44 states involved in the production of the F-22.
