MONROE - Federal agents would not say what they were looking for, but the home office of Angel Food Ministries was the object of an FBI search Wednesday.

An unidentified spokesperson for the food ministry told Fox 5 News that volunteers and ministry personnel cooperated fully with the search.

The Angel Food Ministries was started in 1994 by husband and wife Joe and Linda Wingo. According to the organization's website, they provide food for hundreds of families in 35 states. Dozens of churches in the northeast Georgia area participate in the food distribution services offered by Angel Food.

Recent tax records showed the ministry paid out 70-percent of expenditures, but they also indicated that four members of the Wingo family split more than $2 million in salaries in 2006.

According to its Web site, Angel Food Ministries has 25 host sites within a 20-mile radius of Gainesville... including six in Gainesville, itself.
