UNDATED - At least eight people were killed by stormy weather in Oklahoma last night and strong thunderstorms are possible in north Georgia later today... riding in on strong, gusty winds.

Some of the storms heading toward Georgia, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), could produce damaging winds.

The NWS service has already issued a Wind Advisory for much of north and central Georgia for today for sustained winds of 20-35 mph and gusts of at least 35.

For mountain counties, however, there is a High Wind Warning in place. Winds in those areas are expected to be in the 30-40 mph range... with gusts topping 50 mph at times.

OKLAHOMA STORMS

Emergency responders will wait until daybreak to resume searching tornado wreckage in Lone Grove, Okla., where eight people died in a twister.

The large, violent tornado ripped through the southern Oklahoma town late yesterday damaging or destroying structures. Dozens of people were injured.
Before the search was suspended for the night, rescuers found one woman injured but alive under an overturned mobile home. Numerous power lines down in the area prompted crews to delay rescue efforts.

Severe weather also caused damage and power outages in metro Oklahoma City and western Texas.

The tornado was one of several unusual February twisters that touched down in Oklahoma, including in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, where homes and businesses were damaged. Only three minor injuries have been reported.
