Search ends for fraud scheme suspect

GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Sheriff's Office confirms that Wendell Spell, the man wanted in connection with an alleged multi-million dollar fraud scheme, has been found.

Col. Jeff Strickland says Spell was booked into the Hall County Jail Monday on a felony bad check charge and was freed later than day on a $5,000 bond.

Federal authorities had taken the lead in the fraud investigation involving Spell last October.

Hall County Sheriff Steve Cronic said at the time he had been in contact with federal authorities "since the onset of the case."

Cronic said during the meeting in October with federal authorities that "issues surrounding this case were discussed and it was determined that because of...the multi-state and international aspects of the case, that the Federal authorities would have to be the lead agency."
