GAINESVILLE -- No school. No high school basketball, right?

Wrong.

All but two local schools - Johnson and Riverside Military Academy - will be participating in various holiday tournaments or scheduled regular season games this week.

Beginning Monday, the East Hall boys team will be heading to Charleston, S.C. to play in the prestigious Roundball Classic, a national tournament the Vikings won back in 2005 with Walter Hill and Frank Davis leading the way. The tournament runs through Wednesday.

Also beginning Monday, the Chestatee and East Hall girls will travel to Hart County to play in the always-tough McDonald's Shootout. The Gainesville girls will play in the Deep South Classic at Brookwood High School, and the Flowery Branch boys will play in the Powerade Tournament at North Gwinnett. All three tournaments run through Wednesday.

On Tuesday, North Hall will play Pacelli at Phillips Arena in Atlanta while on Wednesday, the Trojans will play host to West Hall in a Region 7-AAA showdown.

Hoops action will resume Saturday with Gainesville at Buford highlighting the action. In Region 7A-AAA, North Hall will travel to Lumpkin County while and in 7B-AAA East Hall travels to West Forsyth and Flowery Branch travels to Lambert.

Lakeview Academy resumes its season on Saturday traveling to Aquinas.
