HONOLULU -- It was a very quiet Christmas Eve in sports, where the only creatures stirring were in Honolulu.

SMU has capped its tremendous turnaround with a rout at the Hawaii Bowl. Freshman Kyle Padron set a Mustangs record by throwing for 460 yards in a 45-10 romp over Nevada, which suffered its fourth straight bowl loss. The 18-year-old Padron also threw for two touchdowns while completing 32 of his 41 passes.

Shawnbrey McNeal ran for three touchdowns, two coming in the game's first 6 1/2 minutes.

Southern Methodist finishes 8-5 one year after going 1-and-11 in its first season under head coach June Jones.

The Wolf Pack also end up 8-5
