Authorities say the break-in occurred at 11:30 a.m. at 1298 Burns Drive. The victim told officers he arrived home and heard a noise coming from his carport and noticed a White Buick backing out towards him at a high rate of speed. He told authorities he was almost hit by the car.
The victim said that the vehicle was occupied with two black males in dark clothing; he was able to provide a tag number. Officers ran the tag number provided by the victim and found that the Buick had been stolen in a separate incident on December 9th. The victim had an undisclosed amount of property taken from his residence.
The Gainesville Patrol Division located the stolen vehicle about 20 minutes after the burglary, abandoned at Myrtle Street Apartments. Witnesses stated that two black males exited the vehicle and left on foot walking towards Mill Street Aptartments.
The Criminal Investigative Division was contacted to process the vehicle, and the results yielded evidence which led patrol officers to a vacant residence located in the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Blvd. A search warrant was executed for the residence and all items were recovered from the Burns Drive burglary, along with several recovered items from reported entering autos, burglaries and thefts from both City and County jurisdictions.
Gainesville police are asking anyone with additional information on the incident to contact the Criminal Investigative Division at 770-534-5254 or 770-534-5252.
