CLERMONT - Fire damaged a 4,000-square-foot house on Cleveland Highway Friday morning. It is in the 5200 block just north of Georgia Highway 52.

Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said firefighters were alerted to the blaze by an alarm company but quickly had a "visual" on a large column of black smoke shortly after leaving the station.

Kimbrell says the call came in about 10:30 and crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control. He said most of the fire damage was confined to the second floor and the attic. No one was home at the time and the cause of the fire was not immediately known.
