FITZGERALD -- Buford will get the chance to defend its two-time Class AA state title.

The Wolves rallied from an early first half deficit to beat Fitzgerald 38-28 Friday night in the semifinals.

Buford (13-1) scored 10 points in the final 5:23 of the game to advance to the championship game against Calhoun (14-0) a 49-41 winner over Lovett in the other semifinals. Lovett was the only team to knock off Buford during the regular season.

The title game will be a rematch of last year's Class AA championship game - a 45-21 Buford win.

The Buford defense put in a tremendous effort against a Purple Hurricanes offense that came into the game as the highest scoring team in the state averaging over 47 points a game.

David Petroni gave Buford a 31-28 lead with 5:23 left in the game on a 27-yard field goal.

Fitzgerald quickly began moving down the field but the Wolves recovered a fumble with just over four minutes left and Jessel Curry sealed the game scoring from 1-yard out with 28 seconds to cap a short drive.
