A relative at the scene of the bombing tells Associated Press Television the family was in a car on a shopping trip when they were caught in the blast.
A local official says the dead include two children who appeared to be under the age of four.
The Interior Ministry earlier reported three dead and three more wounded. The relative says those who were injured later died.
NATO, meanwhile, is reporting a U.S. service member was killed yesterday in an insurgent attack. The death brings to 16 the number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan this month.
