ATLANTA - A Democratic lawmaker is introducing a measure that would require Georgia sex offenders to post "No Candy Here" signs on Halloween.

State Rep. Rob Teilhet, who is running for Attorney General, said Friday his proposal would punish offenders who violate the law with 60 days in jail and a $1,500 fine. Similar proposals have been adopted in Florida, Indiana and Maryland.

Teilhet, a Smyrna attorney, calls the measure "an excellent tool for our police officers and our parents to use on a night when many of our children are out and vulnerable."

He said as a parent, he wants all children to steer clear of homes where sex offenders live.
