LAWRENCEVILLE - The Gwinnett County Police Department unveiled its new partnership with www.CrimeMapping.com Tuesday.

The interactive Crime Mapping web site will enable people to map and view reported crime activity by neighborhood or near specific addresses; it will allow users to gain knowledge of what is going on in their neighborhoods and surrounding areas.

"The Gwinnett County Police Department believes this will empower citizens to take extra safety precautions when necessary and to be on the look out for criminal activity occurring around them," Lt. Brian Kelly said. "The service will also include a 'Crime Alerts' utility that allows users to subscribe, via e-mail, to receive alerts regarding incidents of crime near their home or business."

People can view exactly what types of crime are occurring as well as where and when they are being committed.
