Both women applauded the efforts of Kim Johnson, who began The Sandlot Afterschool & Sports Camp program.
The program started as a one week summer sports camp but it has now turned into an everyday program for students at Martin Elementary school in Flowery Branch.
The banquet was held in order to raise funding for the Sandlot Afterschool program which is a faith-based program for any child in need, according to Director Kim Johnson. The program is held from 2:30-5:30 p.m. and allows children to come to do their homework with assistance, exercise, and learn social skills.
Johnson, a computer lab teacher at Martin, encouraged members of the audience to help in any way possible. All staff of the program are volunteers and all fund raising is done on an event basis.
