Obama seeks to enlist doctors for health care overhaul

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama is rallying doctors at the White House today as his bid for a health care overhaul enters a key phase.

The president is convinced doctors are the best advocates for reform, since they're direct witness to how broken and cruel the current system is. An aide says doctors know best that inaction is not an option.

And Obama is hoping for key action this week, approval by the Senate Finance Committee of its overhaul bill.

But that's just one of five bills to make it through committee hearings. So officials acknowledge a huge task remains piecing together final versions -- and getting something through floor votes to Obama's desk for signing.
