ATHENS -- Georgia tailback Richard Samuel, a leading candidate to take over for starter Knowshon Moreno, will miss spring practice after having surgery today on his left wrist.
Team spokesman Claude Felton says Samuel is expected to recover fully for the 2009 season.
Samuel, who played behind Moreno as a freshman in 2008, had surgery at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens.
He hurt his wrist during Georgia's Capital One Bowl win over Michigan State.
Samuel and Caleb King are the top returning candidates at tailback to replace Moreno, who is leaving school early to enter the NFL draft.
