UNDATED - As the drought's grip on Georgia lessens, northeast Georgia remains among the hardest hit place in the state.

The U.S. Drought Monitor describes the situation in the northeast corner of Hall County and counties due east of there as "extreme."

For the rest of northeast Georgia, though, conditions range from "moderate" to "severe."

Most of the state, 75 percent of it according to the report, is now officially "drought free." A year ago, only three percent fell into that category.
