Gainesville man jailed for breaking and entering

GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville man is being held in connection with a string of thefts from unattended automobiles on the southeast side of the city .

Gainesville Police Lt. Brian Kelly said Milton Grant, 40, of Gainesville is believed responsible for breaking into six automobiles between January 11 and January 21, 2009.

Grant was arrested Thursday morning after police saw him loitering in the area of Fair Street. As police investigated Grant's activities, they determined he had a connection with the thefts.

Lt. Kelly said authorities are working to recover items stolen from the vehicles. "It (the stolen property) consisted of radios, any kind of loose monetary change, purses found laying within the vehicles," he said. Lt. Kelly said all of the vehicles involved had been left unsecured.
