Liberal vs. Conservative: That is still the basic debate.

The voters have spoken and those espousing liberal government won. So, what does it mean to move away from Conservative and toward liberalism?<br /> <br /> Liberals believe in big, dominant government. Liberals believe government should help in planning and controlling our personal lives. Liberals believe we are a nation of hyphenated groups, and that each group must receive special privileges. Liberals believe government is responsible for jobs and the economy; and that the free-enterprise system cannot be trusted and should be tightly controlled. Liberals believe taxes should redistribute the wealth, and that high taxes must be levied for social programs. Liberals believe in a weak military, and that our foreign policy should focus on appeasement and sharing our wealth with other nations. Liberals believe in more government, and less personal freedom. Far left Democrats now control both houses of Congress and the White House.<br /> <br /> Conservatives believe in limited government. Conservatives insist government should provide us with a level playing field, and then, except in disasters, each person should stand on his or her own. Conservatives believe we are a nation in which every individual has equal rights, that there are no hyphenated Americans, and that the majority rules. Conservatives believe the road to personal achievement, as well as national greatness, can best be found in the competitive free-enterprise system. Conservatives believe money belongs to the people, not government, and that taxes should only cover basic governmental services. Conservatives believe in a strong military, and that other nations will respect us more for military strength than for appeasement and handouts. Conservatives believe in more personal freedom and less government control. Republicans nominated a moderate conservative, and lost.
