BOSTON -- Boston College fired Jeff Jagodzinski on Wednesday, a day after he interviewed for the New York Jets coaching job.

Athletic director Gene DeFilippo said Jagodzinski was dismissed because of a ``difference of vision for the future.''

DeFilippo had warned Jagodzinski on Saturday that his job would be in jeopardy if he went through with the Jets interview. Jagodzinski met with the Jets on Tuesday night.

In a joint news release, Jagodzinski thanked school officials and said he was proud of what his team had accomplished in his two seasons.

DeFilippo has said he wanted a coach who would stay at the school long term. Jagodzinski had three years left on his contract.
