'Chuck the Chicken' brings in Gainesville's New Year

GAINESVILLE - New York has the 'ball drop', Atlanta, the 'Peach Drop' and now for New Year's 2009, Gainesville had the 'Chicken Drop'.

Gainesville's 'Chuck the Chicken' landed right on time at the Civic Center and around 300 revelers celebrated his arrival along with the new year; among them, Frankie Grant with the Humane Society of Hall County.

"This is the first annual, it was a great showing and we've had a lot of fun," Grant said.

The First Annual Chicken Drop, originated by J.B. Jams Entertainment, was a benefit for the Humane Society.
