Buford uses big second half to rout Decatur

DECATUR -- The final score - 31-0 -- may indicate that the Buford football team dominated Decatur on Friday night in a Region 6-AA matchup.

However, according to Buford coach Jess Simpson, the score does not tell the true story. The Wolves looked sloppy early leading just 3-0 at halftime after a scoreless first quarter.

"We just didn't execute and that's all there is to it," Simpson said afterwards.

Buford was held to 97 yards and had lost two of four fumbles in the first 24 minutes. Daniel Villarfuerte, after he missed one earlier from 52 yards, booted a 40-yard field goal to break the scoreless tie.

However, the second half was more of what Buford football fans have become accustomed to, as the Wolves scored four second-half touchdowns to eventually pull away for the big win.

The defense held Decatur to just 60 total yards for the game, sacking the Bulldogs eight times and holding the Bulldogs to just one first down.

The Wolves, led by Storm Johnson (15 carries, 194 yards, 2 TDs) rolled through the second half, as he broke for a 55-yard touchdown followed by a 38-yard scoring run.

Buford improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in 6-AA and will play host to Avondale next week.
