ATLANTA - A pair of Georgia public housing authorities are getting nearly half a million dollars to help provide greater access to computers and the Internet for public housing residents.

Carrollton and Gainesville housing authorities will receive $150,000 and $300,000 respectively in grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The funding is part of HUD's Public Housing Neighborhood Network Program, which gives housing authorities resources to create, expand or update community technology centers at or near a public housing site.

HUD Tuesday announced $10.6 million in grants to 40 public housing authorities across the country, including two in Alabama and two more in Tennessee.
