DAHLONEGA - If all goes well, the water crisis facing Dahlonega for about 10 days should be over in about 24 hours.

John Jarrard, the city's chief water plant operator, said Tuesday night repairs to a failed filter were finished about noon Tuesday and it will take about 48 hours to test the water system to make sure it's working properly.

Dahlonega's only water treatment plant has been running at half capacity since the filter failed.

It was originally feared it might take "two weeks to a month" to finish the work.

City Manager Bill Lewis said Tuesday, "we were able find the materials we need quicker than expected."

Lewis praised city workers, EPD and the people of Dahlonega, adding that residents seem to understand the gravity of the situation; and the city has not had to issue any citations for violating the total ban on outdoor water use that has been in place since the problem developed.
